Tea tree oil is an essential oil derived from the leaves of the tea tree plant, scientifically known as Melaleuca alternifolia. It is also referred to as melaleuca oil. It is believed to be antibacterial, and is commonly used to treat acne, athlete’s foot, lice, nail fungus and insect bites.
