Cinnamon leaf oil is obtained from the leaves of the coppiced trees of Cinnamomum zeylanicum. It is indigenous to Sri Lanka and the Malabar Coast of India. It is also found in Jamaica and Brazil. It needs sandy soils with an admixture of humus. The favorable altitude is 800–1000 m and a sheltered situation with an annual rainfall of 200–250 cm is ideal for cultivation. It has tremendous amount of medicinal properties and is widely used in perfumery, flavour creation and culinary practices.
